Event Details and Frequently Asked Questions
Event Details:
The Ring of Fire Fundraiser is a hot sauce eating event in support of colorectal cancer research. Participants challenge themselves to a marathon of pain as they eat 10 hot wings (or cauliflower bites), each with a spicer hot sauce than the last, while raising money for colorectal cancer research in Alberta.
The Ring of Fire fundraiser is a hot sauce eating competition, but the fundraising format is similar to any other charity walk or run...just with hot wings. Very hot wings. A marathon of pain, if you will.
The general format is:
Participants register and commit to eating 10 chicken wings (vegan and gluten free options available) of increasing spiciness
They gather pledges from friends and family members (which make up the donations to the Alberta Cancer Foundation).
On the evening of the event, the participants meet to challenge their wings alongside a celebrity guest. The celeb will also be trying to keep their composure while being interviewed. If that’s not entertainment value, we don’t know what is.
Basically, participants "char their holes for charity."

What Does “RegisterIng” Mean?
Registering means two things:
1) You are signing up to fundraise. You will pledge to eat the hot sauce, and gather donations from your friends, family, co-workers, team-mates, etc, who support you Please note, you are committed to raising a minimum of $150.
2) You are a “challenger” who is committing to attending the event, and challenging the 10 hot wings/cauliflower bites. You don’t have to eat them all, but people did pledge you so we encourage you to try your best.
Your registration includes:
Entry for you AND one (1) guest, to act as your personal cheerleader
10 hot sauce samples to challenge
10 chicken wings (or an alternative) for dipping your sauces
Access to a customizable fundraising page, to help you collect your donations!
How Do I Register?
Simply sign up on the fundraising site to begin the registration process.
Can I BRing my Friends with me?
When you register as a Challenger to challenge the wings, you are allowed to bring one (1) guest with you to provide moral support. Due to space limitations at the venue, we can only guarantee one guest.
However, once registration closes (Oct 30, 2024) we will email Challengers and open up additional ticket sales.
Can A Minor Register to eat the sauce?
There will probably be a lot of cussing (along the lines of “these wings are so fucking hot”) so we are limiting attendance to 16 years of age or older, and they can only be in the venue until 9:00pm.
The minor MUST BE ACCOMPANIED the entire time by an adult (18+) parent or guardian. This parent/guardian must sign the waiver on the minor’s behalf. The parent/guardian will be required to attend with the minor as their cheerleader/guest.
How Much do I have to Raise?
You need to raise a minimum of $150 to participate, but we encourage you to aim for $500. We promise, it’s not hard!
For $150 you only need 5 people to give you $30, or 10 folks to give you 15 bucks. Easy peasy!
To get to $500, it’s as easy as finding 10 friends, family, co-workers, team-mates, etc, who will donate $50. Or, looking for 20 folks to give just 25 bucks! Or maybe you have 5 big spenders in your life who can throw down a spicy $100 bill.
Keep in mind, there will be prizes for the person who raises the most money, and the person who gets the most pledges.
What if I want to Contribute, but I don’t Want to Eat Hot Sauce/Can’t Attend the Event. What Can I do?
Totally fair! Some people have sensitive sphincters. Click here to donate without having to eat a single hot wing. Or you can visit the fundraising page and look for the big orange “Contribute” button. Follow the steps from there.
You can also follow us on Instagram and share our message to encourage more people to get involved! Spread the word!
I don’t eat meat, so No Chicken Wings for me. Can I still Participate?
Yes, absolutely! Kassia, the lead organizer of the event, is a vegan herself. Just indicate your preference during registration. And we will also offer a plant-based milk in place of regular milk upon request.
How do I know this is legit and my money is going where you say it is?
We love a conscientious person! You can see our event listed on the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s website, and you can also check out this handy endorsement letter they’ve provided to us.
